Description

The head is the expanded, pulley-shaped, distal end of the proximal phalanx of fourth toe. It is the distal continuation of its body and contains a distal articular facet, which articulates with the proximal articular facet of the middle phalanx of fourth toe, forming the proximal interphalangeal joint of the fourth toe.

The head of proximal phalanx of fourth toe provides attachment sites for the collateral, accessory collateral and plantar ligaments of the proximal interphalangeal joint of the fourth toe.
