Description
The head is the expanded, pulley-shaped, distal end of the proximal phalanx of thumb. It is the distal continuation of its body and contains a distal articular facet, which articulates with the proximal articular facet of the distal phalanx of thumb, forming the interphalangeal joint of the thumb.
The head of the proximal phalanx of thumb provides attachment sites for the collateral, accessory collateral, and palmar ligaments of the interphalangeal joint of the thumb.
