Description

The intertrochanteric crest is the ridge on the posterior aspect of the proximal end of the femur. It forms the posterior portion of the junction between the body and neck of femur. It extends inferomedially from the greater trochanter to the lesser trochanter.

The prominent quadrate tubercle is located close to the mid-point of the intertrochanteric crest, and this tubercle provides an insertion site for the quadratus femoris muscle.
