Description

The intertrochanteric line is the rough ridge on both the anterior and medial aspects of the proximal end of the femur. It forms the anterior and medial portions of the junction between the body and neck of femur. It spirals inferomedially from the greater trochanter to the lesser trochanter, where it becomes continuous with the spiral line.

The intertrochanteric line provides an origin site for the vastus medialis muscle, and an attachment site for the iliofemoral ligament.
