Description

The ischial spine (spine of ischium) is the pointed, triangular process found along the posterior border of body of ischium. It extends posteromedially and separates the greater sciatic notch from the lesser sciatic notch.

The ischial spine provides origin sites for the coccygeus and levator ani muscles, as well as an attachment site for the sacrospinous ligament.
