Description

The lateral condyle of tibia (lateral tibial condyle or external condyle of tibia) is the laterally located, round, articular eminence found on the proximal end of the tibia. It is the smaller of the two articular condyles of the tibia, the other being the medial condyle.

It articulates with the lateral condyle of femur, via the lateral meniscus, forming the lateral femorotibial joint. Overall, the lateral femorotibial, medial femorotibial and patellofemoral joints collectively form the knee joint.

The lateral condyle of tibia contains the fibular articular facet and the tubercle of iliotibial tract. It provides an origin site for the extensor digitorum longus muscle and an attachment site for the lateral patellar retinaculum.
