Description

The lateral lip of linea aspera is the edge of the linea aspera that lies further from the midline of the body. It is one of two lips of the linea aspera, the other being the medial lip, both of which surround the intermediate zone of linea aspera. It is continuous:

—superiorly, with the gluteal tuberosity;

—inferiorly, with the lateral supracondylar line.

The lateral lip of linea aspera provides an origin site for the vastus lateralis muscle and the short head of biceps femoris muscle. It also provides an attachment site for the lateral femoral intermuscular septum.
