Description

The lateral surface is the flat, subcutaneous area on the lateral aspect of the calcaneus. It is one of the six surfaces of the calcaneus, the other five being the posterior, plantar, dorsal and medial surfaces, and the cuboid articular surface.

The lateral surface of calcaneus contains the fibular trochlea and the groove for tendon of fibularis longus muscle. It provides an origin site for the extensor digitorum brevis muscle and attachment sites for the calcaneofibular ligament and the inferior fibular retinaculum.
