Description

The lateral (fibular, or peroneal) surface of fibula is the area found along the lateral aspect of the bone. It is one of the three surfaces of fibula, the other two being the medial and posterior surfaces, and is an area that is bounded:

—anteriorly, by the anterior border of fibula;

—posteriorly, by the posterior border of fibula.

The lateral surface of fibula provides origin sites for the fibularis longus and fibularis brevis muscles. Because these muscles originate from this lateral surface, it is therefore also known as the fibular, or peroneal, surface of the fibula.
