Description

The medial surface is the concave area on the medial aspect of the calcaneus. It is one of the six surfaces of the calcaneus, the other five being the posterior, plantar, dorsal and lateral surfaces, and the cuboid articular surface.

The medial surface of calcaneus contains the sustentaculum tali and the groove for tendon of flexor hallucis longus muscle. It provides attachment sites for the:

- plantar calcaneonavicular ligament;

- medial talocalcaneal ligament;

- tibiocalcaneal part of medial collateral ligament of ankle joint;

- flexor retinaculum of foot.
