Description

The medial (extensor) surface of fibula is the narrow area found along the anteromedial aspect of the bone. It is one of the three surfaces of fibula, the other two being the lateral and posterior surfaces, and is an area that is bounded:

—anteriorly, by the anterior border of fibula;

—posteriorly, by the interosseous border of fibula.

The medial surface of fibula provides origin sites for the extensor digitorum longus, extensor hallucis longus and fibularis tertius muscles. Because these muscles originate from this medial surface, it is therefore also known as the extensor surface of the fibula.
