Description

The palmar surface is the rough, non-articular, anterior aspect of the trapezium bone. It contains the tubercle of trapezoid bone, medial to which lies a groove for the tendon of the flexor carpi radialis muscle.

The palmar surface of trapezium bone provides origin sites for the abductor pollicis brevis, flexor pollicis brevis, and opponens pollicis muscles. It also provides attachment sites for the:

—scaphotrapeziotrapezoidal ligament;

—palmar trapeziotrapezoidal ligament;

—palmar carpometacarpal ligaments;

—flexor retinaculum of hand.
