Description

The pelvic surface is the smooth area on the medial aspect of the body of ischium. It is one of the three surfaces of the body of ischium, the other two being the femoral and dorsal surfaces, and it is an area that is bounded:

—anteriorly, by the anterior border of body of ischium;

—posteriorly, by the posterior border of body of ischium.

Its superior end is continuous with the sacropelvic surface of ilium and the pelvic surface of superior pubic ramus. Its inferior end is continuous with the inferior internal surface of ramus of ischium.

The pelvic surface of body of ischium provides an origin site for the obturator internus muscle.
