Description

The posterior surface is the rounded, convex area on the posterior aspect of the calcaneus. It is one of the six surfaces of the calcaneus, the other five being the dorsal, plantar, medial and lateral surfaces, and the cuboid articular surface.

The posterior surface of calcaneus contains the calcaneal tuberosity. It provides insertion sites for the gastrocnemius, soleus and plantaris muscles, all via the calcaneal tendon.
