Description

The posterior surface of humerus is the area on the dorsal aspect of the body of the humerus.

It is one of the three surfaces of the body of the humerus, the other two being the anterolateral and anteromedial surfaces. It is an area that is bounded:

—medially, by both the medial border and medial supracondylar ridge of humerus;

—laterally, by both the lateral border and lateral supracondylar ridge of humerus.

The posterior surface of humerus contains the groove for radial nerve, which divides the posterior surface into proximal and distal portions, where:

—the proximal portion provides an origin site for the lateral head of triceps brachii muscle;

—the distal portion provides an origin point for the medial head of triceps brachii muscle.
