Description

The posterior surface of tibia is the area found along the posterior aspect of the bone. It is one of the three surfaces of tibia, the other two being the medial and lateral surfaces, and is an area that is bounded:

—medially, by the medial border of tibia;

—laterally, by the interosseous (lateral) border of tibia.

The posterior surface of tibia contains the soleal line and the nutrient foramen of tibia. It provides origin sites for the flexor digitorum longus, tibialis posterior and soleus muscles, and provides an insertion site for the popliteus muscle.
