Description
The ramus of ischium (ischial ramus) is the flat, bony bar that projects from the inferior portion of the body of ischium. It is one of the two parts of the ischium, the other being the body of ischium. From the body, the ramus of ischium extends in anterosuperior and medial direction to fuse with the inferior pubic ramus. Collectively, the ramus of ischium and inferior pubic ramus are known as the ischiopubic ramus, which forms the inferior margin of the obturator foramen.
The ramus of ischium consists of:
- two surfaces (external and internal);
- two borders (superior and inferior).
It provides origin sites for the superficial and deep transverse perineal, ischiocavernosus and adductor magnus muscles.
