Description

The sesamoid grooves are the two smooth depressions found on the plantar aspect of the head of first metatarsal bone. Each groove has a tendon of the flexor hallucis brevis muscle passing through it, along with a sesamoid bone that is embedded within each tendon. The sesamoid grooves are separated from each other by a central ridge.
