Description

The superior pubic ramus (superior ramus of pubis) is the superiorly located, bony bar that projects from the superolateral aspect of the body of pubis. It is one of the two rami of the pubis, the other being the inferior pubic ramus. From the body, it extends in a posterosuperior and lateral direction to the acetabulum, where it fuses with the bodies of the ilium and ischium. It forms the anterior one-fifth of the acetabulum and the superior margin of the obturator foramen.

The superior pubic ramus consists of:

—three surfaces (pectineal, obturator and pelvic);

—three borders (obturator crest, pecten pubis and inferior border).
