Description

The alveolar part (alveolar process) is the thick, U-shaped, superior projection found along the superior aspect of the mandible. The alveolar part:

—is continuous inferiorly with the body of mandible;

—consists of the dental alveoli, interalveolar septa and interradicular septa of the mandible;

—provides an origin site for the buccinator muscle.

The alveolar part of the mandible forms the mandibular alveolar arch, which lodges all of the mandibular (lower) teeth.
