Description

The anterior surface is the smooth, convex area on the anterior aspect of the manubrium of the sternum. It is one of the two surfaces of the manubrium, the other being the posterior surface, and is an area that is bounded by the superior, inferior and two lateral borders of the manubrium of the sternum.

The anterior surface of manubrium of the sternum provides an origin site for the pectoralis major muscle and the sternal head of the sternocleidomastoid muscle. It also provides an attachment site for the sternocostal ligaments.
