Description

The anterior surface is the smooth, flat area on the anterior aspect of the xiphoid process. It is one of the two surfaces of the xiphoid process, the other being the posterior surface, and is an area that is bounded by the superior and two lateral borders of the xiphoid process.

The anterior surface of the xiphoid process provides an insertion site for the rectus abdominis muscle and attachment sites for the sternocostal ligaments.
