Description

The apex (tip) of coccyx is the narrow lower end of the bone. It is formed by the fourth coccygeal vertebra and provides an origin site for the external anal sphincter muscle and an insertion site for the levator ani muscle. It also provides an attachment site for the anococcygeal ligament.
