Description

The articular facet is the round, smooth area located on the medial aspect of the head of the first rib. It articulates with the superior costal facet of the first thoracic vertebra, forming the joint of the head of the first rib.

Overall, the first, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth ribs have a single articular facet on their heads, while the remaining ribs have two articular facets, known as the superior and inferior articular facets on heads of ribs.
