The head of the sixth rib contains two articular facets.
- The superior articular facet articulates with the inferior costal facet of the fifth thoracic vertebra, forming the upper part of the joint of the head of the sixth rib.
- The inferior articular facet articulates with the superior costal facet of the sixth thoracic vertebra, forming the lower part of the joint of the head of the sixth rib.
