Description

The body (shaft) of twelfth rib is the long, curved part of the bone that extends from its head to its costal end. It is flattened in appearance, where it has external and internal surfaces and superior and inferior borders.

Unlike the other ribs, the twelfth rib does not have a costal groove or angle. It provides attachment sites for the intercostal muscles, along with muscles of the back and abdomen.
