Description

The bones of the head are the superior-most bones of the axial skeleton. They provide:

- protection to the brain;

- the skeletal framework for the cranial, oral and nasal cavities;

- attachment sites for muscles of the head and neck regions;

- the ability to chew our food (mastication).

The bones of the head consist of the:

- bones of the cranium;

- auditory ossicles;

- teeth.
