Description

The crest (interarticular crest) is the horizontal ridge found along the medial aspect of the head of the sixth rib. It separates the superior and inferior articular facets and attaches to its adjacent intervertebral disc, via an intraarticular ligament.

Overall, only the heads of the second to ninth ribs consist of a crest, while the first, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth ribs do not.
