Description

The crest (ridge) is the sharp, upper edge of the neck of the ninth rib. It is continuous laterally with the superior border of the body of ninth rib and provides an attachment site for the superior costotransverse ligament.

Overall, only the necks of the second to tenth ribs consist of a crest. It is absent from the neck of the first rib due to its round shape, while the eleventh and twelfth ribs have no neck at all.
