Description
The external surface (outer surface) of tenth rib is its smooth, convex, outer area. It is one of the two surfaces of the body of the tenth rib, the other being the internal surface.
The external surface of tenth rib consists of the angle, which is located on its posterolateral aspect. It provides:
—origin sites for the external abdominal oblique, iliocostalis thoracis and latissimus dorsi muscles;
—insertion sites for the levatores costarum breves, levatores costarum longi, iliocostalis lumborum, internal abdominal oblique, longissimus thoracis and serratus posterior inferior muscles.
