Description
The external surface (outer surface) of twelfth rib is its smooth, convex, outer area. It is one of the two surfaces of the body of the twelfth rib, the other being the internal surface.
The external surface of twelfth rib provides:
—origin sites for the external abdominal oblique, iliocostalis thoracis and latissimus dorsi muscles;
—insertion sites for the levatores costarum breves, levatores costarum longi, internal abdominal oblique, longissimus thoracis and serratus posterior inferior muscles.
