Description

The fifth costal notches are the lateral facing articular areas found along the lateral borders of the body of the sternum. They are one of the seven pairs of articular facets that are found on the lateral borders of the entire sternum.

Each fifth costal notch articulates with the fifth costal cartilage on its respective side, forming the fifth costosternal joints.
