Description
The first costal notches are the superiorly located, laterally facing articular areas found along the lateral borders of the manubrium of the sternum. They are one of the seven pairs of articular facets that are found on the lateral borders of the entire sternum.
Each first costal notch articulates with the first costal cartilage on its respective side, forming the first costosternal joints.
