Description
The inferior annular epiphysis (inferior epiphyseal ring) is the raised, smooth, saddle-shaped, outer edge on the lower aspect of the body of the axis (second cervical vertebra). It provides an attachment site for an intervertebral disc.
Overall, adjacent vertebral bodies articulate with each other via intervertebral discs, forming the intervertebral symphysis joints.
