Description

The inferior articular processes (inferior zygapophyses) are the two downwardly projecting processes found along the inferolateral aspects of the axis (second cervical vertebra). They extend inferiorly from the junctions between the pedicles and laminae.

The inferior articular processes of the axis consist of inferior articular facets that face anteroinferiorly. They articulate with the superior articular processes of the third cervical vertebra, forming zygapophyseal joints.
