Description

The inferior nuchal lines are the lower pair of curved ridges found along the external aspect of the squamous part of occipital bone. They extend laterally from the middle of the external occipital crest, curve across the nuchal plane, and travel towards the jugular processes of the occipital bone.

The inferior nuchal lines provide insertion sites for the rectus capitis posterior major and minor muscles. They are more pronounced in males than females.
