The infratemporal surfaces are the smooth, concave areas found along the inferolateral aspects of both the right and left greater wings of the sphenoid bone. On its corresponding side, each infratemporal surface:
—is separated from a superiorly located temporal surface by an infratemporal crest;
—consists of a sulcus of auditory tube;
—contributes to the formation of an infratemporal fossa;
—provides an origin site for a superior head of lateral pterygoid muscle.
