Description

The infratemporal surface (posterior surface) is the area found along the posterolateral aspect of the maxilla. It is one of five surfaces of the maxilla, the other four being the anterior, orbital, nasal and palatine surfaces.

The infratemporal surface:

—consists of the maxillary tuberosity and alveolar foramina;

—provides an origin site for the medial pterygoid muscle;

—forms the anterior wall of the infratemporal fossa.
