Description
The intermediate sacral crest (medial sacral crest) is the vertical ridge found along the dorsal surface of the sacrum. It is located medial to the posterior sacral foramina and is formed by the articular tubercles, which are the remnants of the articular processes of the sacral vertebrae. However, it does not include the inferior articular tubercles of the fifth sacral vertebra, which instead forms the sacral cornua.
The sacrum has two intermediate sacral crests, right and left, and these make up two of the five crests found on the dorsal surface of the sacrum, the other three being the two lateral sacral crests and the one median sacral crest.
