Description
The internal surface (inner surface) of second rib is its smooth, concave, inner area. It is one of the two surfaces of the body of the second rib, the other being the external surface, and it faces in an inferomedial direction.
The internal surface of second rib consists of the costal groove, which is located on its inferior edge, adjacent to the ribs inferior border. It provides an insertion site for the transversus thoracis muscle, attachment sites for the innermost intercostal muscles, and is covered by endothoracic fascia.
