Description
The jugular fossa is a deep depression found along the inferior surface of the petrous part of temporal bone. It is located:
—posterior to the lateral end of the carotid canal;
—medial to the styloid process;
—lateral to the occipital bone.
The jugular fossa lodges the superior bulb of the internal jugular vein and both it and the jugular notch form the anterior margin of the jugular foramen.
