Description

The lacrimal groove is the vertical, deep depression found along the nasal surface of the maxilla. It is located:

—anterior to the maxillary hiatus;

—posterior to the conchal crest of maxilla;

—anterolateral to both the lacrimal groove of lacrimal bone and the lacrimal process of inferior nasal concha;

—inferior to the lacrimal notch of maxilla.

The lacrimal groove is converted into the nasolacrimal canal by its combination with both the lacrimal groove of the lacrimal bone and the lacrimal process of the inferior nasal concha. This canal allows for the passage of the nasolacrimal duct.
