Description

The lateral borders are the irregular lateral margins of the manubrium of the sternum. They form two of the four borders of the manubrium of the sternum, the other two being the superior and inferior borders. Each lateral border contains a superiorly located first costal notch, and an inferiorly located demifacet that forms the upper part of the second costal notch.

The lateral borders of manubrium of the sternum provide attachment sites for the sternocostal ligaments.
