Description

The lateral borders are the irregular lateral margins of the xiphoid process. They form two of the three borders of the xiphoid process, the other being the superior border. Each lateral border contains a superiorly located demifacet that forms the lower part of the seventh costal notch.

The lateral borders of the xiphoid process provide attachment sites for the linea alba and the aponeuroses of the transversus abdominis muscles.
