Description

The left lateral part (lateral mass) of sacrum is the large, longitudinal projection that extends from the left side of the median part of sacrum. It is formed by the transverse processes that extend from the left side of the sacral vertebrae as individual bony bars. These transverse processes fuse at their lateral ends, forming the anterior and posterior sacral foramina.

The left lateral part of sacrum is one of three parts of the sacrum, the other two being the right lateral part and the median part. Both the right and left lateral parts of sacrum consist of a lateral sacral crest, an ala, a sacral tuberosity, and an auricular surface.
