Description

The lateral tubercles are the small, laterally projecting prominences found on the lateral aspects of the transverse processes of the twelfth thoracic vertebra. They are one of three pairs of tubercles found on the twelfth thoracic vertebra, the other two being the superior and inferior tubercles.

The lateral tubercles are the thoracic equivalents to the lateral tips of the transverse processes of the lumbar vertebrae and provide attachment sites for the thoracic intertransversarii muscles.
