Description

The mammillary processes are the small, rough prominences found on the posterior aspects of the superior articular processes of a lumbar vertebra.

They are the lumbar equivalents to the superior tubercles that are found on the transverse processes of the twelfth thoracic vertebra and provide attachment sites for the multifidus and intertransversarii muscles.
