Description

The medial surfaces are the two areas found along the inner aspects of both the right and left rami of the mandible. On its corresponding side, each medial surface:

—consists of a mandibular foramen, mylohyoid groove, lingula, retromolar fossa, and a temporal crest;

—provides an insertion site for the medial pterygoid muscle;

—provides an attachment site for the sphenomandibular ligament;

—forms the lateral wall of the infratemporal fossa.
