Description

The median sacral crest (tubercular ridge) is the vertical, irregular ridge found along the midline of the dorsal surface of the sacrum. It is formed by the spinous tubercles, which are the remnants of spinous processes of the first four sacral vertebrae. Due to the absence of the spinous tubercle of the fifth sacral vertebra, the median sacral crest ends before the apex of the sacrum, leaving an opening on its dorsal surface known as the sacral hiatus.

The median sacral crest is one of five crests found on the dorsal surface of the sacrum, the other four being the two intermediate and two lateral sacral crests.
