Description

The occipital border (occipital margin or posterior border) is the serrated, posteriorly located margin of the mastoid part of temporal bone. It is one of the two borders of the mastoid part of temporal bone, the other being the parietal border.

The occipital border:

—extends inferiorly from the parietal border of the mastoid part to the jugular fossa of the temporal bone;

—articulates with the mastoid border of the occipital bone, forming the occipitomastoid suture.
